How Private Convert Works
Private Convert is a browser-based tool. All file conversion happens directly inside your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API and built-in browser capabilities. When you select a file, it is loaded into your browser's memory and processed there. No file data is ever transmitted to any server operated by us.
You can verify this yourself: disconnect from the internet after the page loads, and the converter will still work perfectly. That is how local the processing is.
Information We Collect
We collect no personal information. Specifically:
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any account information (there are no accounts).
- We do not store, access, or retain any files you convert.
- We do not log IP addresses or track your usage.
- We do not use analytics tools (no Google Analytics, no tracking pixels, no heatmaps).
- We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers.
Local Storage
We store one preference in your browser's localStorage: your chosen theme (light or dark mode). This value never leaves your device and is only used to remember your display preference between visits. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
We do not use cookies for tracking, advertising, or session management. No cookie consent banner is required because we set no tracking cookies.
Your Files
Files you process with Private Convert are loaded into your browser's memory for the duration of the conversion, then discarded when you close the tab or load a new file. We have no technical ability to access them. They are never sent to our servers because we do not run file-processing servers.
This is a structural privacy guarantee, not a policy promise. The architecture makes data collection impossible, not just prohibited.
Third-Party Resources
Our pages load a small number of external resources:
- Lucide Icons (unpkg.com CDN): icon assets loaded for the user interface. The CDN may log your IP address as part of standard CDN operation. No personal data is shared beyond what a standard HTTP request contains.
- Netlify: our hosting provider. Netlify may collect standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) as part of hosting infrastructure. Refer to Netlify's Privacy Policy for details.
We have no relationship with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics providers.
Children's Privacy
Private Convert does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. Since we collect no personal information from anyone, this applies equally to all users.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change how the service works in a way that affects privacy, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Given the nature of our architecture, significant changes are unlikely.
